The Institute spares no effort at the popularization of physics among wide
society and particularly among young people. Making science attractive to
young people at primary and secondary schools is an important item on our agenda.
Every two years the Institute organizes Open Day Event mainly addressed to
high school students and pupils. The latest event took place in September
2008. More than 800 students and teachers visited us on that day. The session
of 5 popular lectures on current topics in physics ware given. Oxford Debate
of two high school teams on pros and cons of nuclear power plants evoked
spontaneous engagement of students. Opened access to 27 research laboratories
enabled to present our work and scientific equipment. The presentations were
accompanied by a number of thematic exhibits, posters and films.
The Institute may be visited not only on the Open Day. 59 groups (1678
persons) pupils, students and teachers were accepted in different laboratories
during 2007 and 2008. Usually one group has visited 4-5 labs.
