I was born on December 7, 1952 in Krakow. My Christian name is Jan Kanty. Important part of my education took place in "Nowodworek" - one of the oldest secondary schools in Poland. I graduated from the Institute of Physics of the Jagiellonian University in 1976. Since then I have worked in the Department of Structural Research of the Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences. I spent one year at KFA in Jülich, Germany, two years at JINR in Dubna, Russia and three months at Research Center for Molecular Thermodynamics, Osaka University, Japan (twice). I have also often visited IFE in Kjeller, Norway. I am a member of the Cracow Branch of the Polish Physical Society and of the Polish Society for Neutron Scattering.

My wife's name is Maria, but friends call her Maka. We have eight children: Urszula (married to Robert Trojanowski), Dorota (married to Tomasz Pazdan), Mateusz, Marek, Agata, Jakub, Piotr and Tomasz. We have also five grandchildren. We live here.
