The Ombudsman – an Advocate for the Rights and Ethical Values at IFJ PAN

The responsibility of the Ombudsman at IFJ PAN is to act for the promotion of high ethical standards and effective dispute resolution and to provide assistance to PhD students and employees at solving problems and complaints that they may report. In his/her actions the Ombudsman is guided by the principles of confidentiality, impartiality and neutrality.

Responsibilities

  1. To provide support in analysis and solution of problems pertaining to the workplace and/or education.
  2. To offer a neutral and impartial perspective in a given case.
  3. To ensure a confidential place for discussing problems.
  4. To help in solving problems and cases by determining the objective of the actions and by discussing and examining possible options for resolving issues.
  5. To offer counselling in problem-solving and assistance in oral and written communication.
  6. To explain the regulations of the Institute’s internal policy and the ways in which it operates.
  7. To refer the reporting person to competent offices and services.
  8. To offer support in analysis of a given problem from the perspectives of other persons.
  9. To assist in conflict resolution between the parties.
  10. To undertake the role of a conciliator and participate in dispute settlement as an impartial party.
