The Data Management Plan (DMP) defines how research data is to be managed both during and after the research project. The data management plan is considered part of a research plan, and supplements the research plan with a technical description of how the data will be managed.
THE DMP SHOULD CONTAIN INFORMATION:
what data will be produced or collected (format and type of files, size of data)
how the data will be structured and described (methodology, standards, metadata)
ethical and legal issues (intellectual property, copyright, classified data)
how the data will be shared (how, when, with whom)
which data will be stored long-term (the question of how to store and protect the data)
