Copernicus was a great astronomer, but it was his hobby. He mainly dealt with managing church properties as a canon of Warmia. He was a man of many talents and acquired extensive knowledge in mathematics, medicine, law, philosophy, and theology through various studies. During the lecture, we will learn about his biography, astronomical discoveries, and the revolutionary heliocentric theory that changed our understanding of the universe. Step by step, we will realize how thanks to Copernicus, humanity began to understand that Earth is not unique, and our planet and other celestial bodies are part of a larger cosmic puzzle. With these innovative ideas, Copernicus became one of the key figures that contributed to the birth of modern astronomy and physics. His legacy endures today, inspiring future generations of scientists to explore the mysteries of the universe. Join us for the lecture, which will bring us closer to the fascinating history and achievements of Nicolaus Copernicus, the man who set the Earth in motion and halted the Sun.

Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) have recently been a topic often present in the media space and public debate. However, there are often inaccurate definitions of the term SMR. The lecture includes aimed at trying to organize these issues and, consequently, to better understand the problem. The appearance of SMR reactors on the market offers a different perspective on nuclear energy. SMRs are of interest to exporters of nuclear technologies, potential importers as well as private investors. The advantages and wide range of applications may cause this new type of reactors to play an important role in projects for, among others, decarbonization. During the lecture, various meanings of the term SMR and the history of the development of this type of solutions will be discussed. The audience will learn about the development and global situation of SMRs in the world and about the possibilities of using nuclear energy from such reactors in terms of energy and heat. An important aspect is the economy of SMRs and barriers to their entry into the market. The issues of SMR reactors in the context of the Polish Nuclear Energy Program will also be discussed.

Going out to lunch, we give instructions to the Perfect Scientist to solve a very difficult problem in theoretical physics. When we return, the machine carefully and accessibly explains to us the various steps of the original solution found... A pipe dream or the near future? In this talk, I will discuss the benefits and risks of using Artificial Intelligence in science.

A discussion panel with experts known from our YouTube program "Kanapa Fizyków". When the entire Kraków is taken over by the academic community during the Małopolska Scientists' Night, one question arises: what is it all for? What is the value of scientific work today when artificial intelligence is developing so quickly and attacking new areas of creative work? Does the world still need scientists for anything? In our debate, we will show what the true value of scientific thinking is, especially in today's world, when the media still deceives us with headlines and unconfirmed rumors, using topics such as climate change and new energy sources as an example.

Have you seen particles 10
Time: 14:00-22:00, Building nr 1
A trip into the past IFJ PAN. An exhibition of old measuring instruments, computer components, photos. You can see how our Institute was created, how science was conducted there, what instruments were used, and with what devices the calculations were made. The exhibition is located in the building, built at IFJ and operating since 2000, the cyclotron AIC144, in rooms that are themselves the history of the Institute. Everyone interested in history is invited to a trip into the past and present.
14:00-22:00 (last entrance 21:30)
Visiting selected laboratories of the Institute

Time: 14:00 – 22:00, Tents in the IFJ PAN
Tents of IFJ PAN Scientific Departments - Presentation of the achievements of the IFJ PAN main departments in tents set up in the open air. Meetings with scientists, presentations of physical experiments.
CREDO tent
The latest achievements in recording particles from space will be presented. Little is known about the fact that every second we are bombarded with particles that were formed in the Earth's atmosphere after colliding with particles - travelers created millions of years ago and traversing the vastness of the universe to finally reach us. The observatory in which scientists work: Pierre Auger in Argentina, with the area of an average province in Poland, will be shown. You will also be able to participate in catching particles yourself - using, for example, your smartphone by joining the CREDO project at the IFJ PAN. Thanks to this, each of us, from a student to a pensioner, can become a scientist - a co-author of perhaps fundamental discoveries. Maybe it will also help to warn people about the impending earthquake or explain the origin of some diseases, the sources of which we do not know yet? The study of particles from space has a huge future and it is important that we can all do it here and now.
EAVESDROPPING ON SATELLITES
Eavesdropping on satellites - Eavesdropping and recording of photos from weather satellites flying over IFJ PAN using a simple TV card for a computer and a piece of wire as an antenna. We will also follow signals from planes flying around Krakow.
Tatuaż z fizyką w tle - Mini water tattoo parlor (washable).

Godziny 17:00-21:00, teren IFJ PAN (przewidywany czas trwania 40-60 minut)
An outdoor game in the convention of an "urban game" based on the laws and physical phenomena encountered in everyday life, organized on the premises of the IFJ PAN. Participants will be equipped with a map of the Institute and a mobile application that will allow them to reach the competition tasks. The correct solution will reveal the location of the next task. Prizes await the winners who complete the game.

Professor W. Spaniały examines in a very unusual way: it is enough to give him a piece of paper with the appropriate grade. There is only one catch - the cards are hidden in boxes, the opening of which requires a code. Each subsequent assessment (3, 4, 5) is a new puzzle (based on physical effects) to be solved. What grade will you be able to get? You only have half an hour! Prizes await the winners.

Poker of scientists is a general knowledge quiz with cards and chips. Participants bid for the possibility of answering questions in the field of science, the Institute's activities, social sciences, culture and hobbies. Between biding rounds cards appear on the table narrowing the scope of the question (e.g. first card: culture, second card: music; third card: Polish popular music;). The winner of the biding answers the question. Difficulty level depends on the own secret card received at the beginning of the hand..
The game consists of multiple hands and is limited in time. The player with the most chips at the end of the game will receive a prize.
Are you good at science? Or maybe you know the world of the Internet or sports better? Here you choose what questions you answer. Keep a poker face and challenge others!
